(I kinda feel bad about hogging the oldsanjuan blogspot address. Some teenager in Puerto Rico is going to be pissed when s/he finds out that an Asian chick from MA got to it first.)

Old San Juan, our home base for the last few days, is one of the most charming cities I've been to. Charmingly historic, crowded, and smelly (good and bad). Small enough to walk, large enough to hold some amazing restaurants and to get away from the cruise tourists with their hawaiian shirts and visors.

Some things I've been learning/thinking about:

-U.S. colonization/Puerto Rican independence
-the presence of obnoxious Americans (but that's every vacation, isn't it?)
-poverty, specifically in La Perla

If something happened to my life in Massachusetts/California and I wanted to move somewhere far away and start over in anonymity, I would move to San Juan. There, now that you all know, I have to think of a new city.

More pictures and words later.
